SIATech Indio Graduate Cheyenne Thrives off of SIATech Support System and Caring Leaders

On Friday, June 6th, SIATech Indio student Cheyenne proudly walked across the stage to not only receive a well deserved diploma but also to deliver an encouraging speech to her fellow graduates.

Cheyenne was selected as a student speaker for her determination and commitment to her education. Her consistent drive and dedication to her studies reminded her teachers of how much just one student can accomplish. In less than a year she completed 21 classes and earned over 100 credits!

Before SIATech

Cheyenne began her high school journey at a traditional public school however, she quickly realized it was not what she expected. Due to the increased pressure she faced, Cheyenne chose to drop out of high school her Sophomore year because she felt it was the right thing to do for her at the time.

“I ended up skipping out on my Junior year because I was too afraid to face the reality of what high school was really like,” said Cheyenne during her speech.

SIATech's Warm Welcome

However, right before the start of her Senior year, Cheyenne’s mother discovered SIATech and felt it would be a good fit for her daughter. Despite her reluctancy, Cheyenne decided to give SIATech a chance and see if it might be a different experience. In April of 2024 she began her SIATech journey.

“SIATech made me feel so welcomed the moment I arrived, and all together made me feel like I actually belonged. The teachers were so amazing and made me feel heard for once,” said Cheyenne.

Small Class Sizes at SIATech were a Big Help

Cheyenne shared that the smaller class sizes allowed for her to gain one on one time with the teachers, which is a big reason why she chose to stay. She also expressed her gratitude for the Indio staff as they consistently provided support and encouraged her to step outside of her comfort zone.

“Thank you for being patient with me and everyone else for allowing us to work on our own schedule at a pace that is comfortable for us,” said Cheyenne during her speech.

Student Connections with Caring Staff at SIATech

Cheyenne reflected on one individual who significantly impacted her during her time at SIATech and that was SIATech Indio Principal Ms. De La Cruz. Cheyenne recalled being extremely nervous about returning to school and the first person she spoke to was Ms. De La Cruz. “She made me feel so welcomed just from our little interaction.”

Cheyenne shared a memory of going to school and feeling down but as soon as she walked through the school door Ms. De La Cruz was there to greet her with a big smile and asked how she was.

“Ms. De La Cruz is such a bright and fun person to be around. She always made the students feel seen and heard and actually listened to us on how we are,” said Cheyenne.

SIATech Field Trips to Build Friendships and Have Fun Beyond the Classroom

One of Cheyenne’s favorite memories at SIATech was being able to attend a field trip to the Pumpkin Patch in Yucaipa. “Not only was it fun but it taught us a lot, during this time I was able to step out of my shell and actually get to know my classmates,” she said.

It's Never Too Late to Finish High School and Pursue Your Dreams

Cheyenne offered words of encouragement to any future prospective students: “It’s never too late to go back to school and pursue your dreams. SIATech strives to help you, not only physically but mentally.”

Life with a High School Diploma after SIATech Graduation

Now that she has graduated, Cheyenne plans to attend college and pursue a career in the medical field. “Beyond academics, I've learned the importance of collaboration through group projects, which taught me how to value different perspectives and work towards a common goal. The challenges I faced, from difficult exams to presenting in front of my peers, built resilience and confidence. These experiences have not only prepared me for future academic pursuits but have also equipped me with essential life skills, shaping me into a more rounded and capable individual.”

Though she faced various trials and tribulations, Cheyenne persevered. She set her mind on a goal and accomplished it. “Being at SIATech showed me that school is easy when you have the right support!"

Congratulations Cheyenne, on behalf of all of SIATech we are so proud of you and cannot wait to see all of your future accomplishments.
