Tatiana is a 12th grader at SIATech North County who has been enrolled for about a year.
After her family had to move away from her previous school district, Tatiana started working rather than go to the local high school. “I wasn’t thinking about school too much because I needed to earn money.”
Without realizing it, 3-4 months had passed. Her mom was consistently encouraging her to finish school. A cousin told her about SIATech high schools, and suggested she go back to finish high school. Tatiana visited SIATech, liked the school environment, and enrolled.
Tatiana has been working in the independent study program, doing some work at home and coming in to do work in the classrooms as well. “With my old schools I didn’t like sitting in class or doing homework. At this school I can work on the computer when I am motivated and ask questions when I have questions.”
While Tatiana said she misses making money at her job, she is focused on school and getting back on track to graduating.

SIATech North County Independent Study is part of a network of California charter high schools focused on helping 16-24 year old students get back in school and back on track to graduation.
