SIATech Meet With California Superintendent

SIATECH STUDENTS TO INTERACT WITH CALIFORNIA SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS JACK O’CONNELL; Previous High School Dropouts to be Featured at Educational Event for Teachers Working with At-Risk Students

San Diego – February 12, 2009 – Several high school students from SIATech®, a public charter high school with seven campuses in California and seven additional campuses outside the state, will be featured at a conference for educators working with at-risk students. The conference will be held at the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina on February 20-22.

A keynote presentation by California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell is a highlight of the three-day conference. O’Connell will be preceded by a SIATech graduate, Jonathan Kenon. Kenon will recount why he dropped out of high school and his path back to education with SIATech high school. Kenon will then introduce the singer of the national anthem, Joshua Sims, a current SIATech student who is signed with Platinum District Records.

The latest practices to address the needs of struggling learners will be discussed at the 4th Annual "Reaching At-Promise Students National Conference," to be held February 20-22, 2009, in San Diego. This three-day event provides workshops, speakers, and resources relevant to elementary and secondary educators. Participants will explore ways to motivate and empower their students, increase academic achievement and curb current dropout trends, and will have opportunities for professional growth and networking with colleagues committed to education.
