SIATech East LA Mentor Teacher Mr. Lam Sets Students Up for Success

Please join us in congratulating our latest staff spotlight nomination, SIATech East LA, Mentor Teacher, Mr. Lam!

He was nominated for “providing guidance and support to Alumni as they adjust to pace and rigor of college classes,” said SIATech East LA colleague Mr. Garcia.

Lam has been serving as a Mentor Teacher since 2015 and has been with the organization since 2010. His position's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, working with students, leading small group instruction, record keeping, IS compliance, grading and more.

“Mr. Lam provides a calm and welcoming environment for all students at the East Los Angeles site. Mr Lam is a resource who guides students and staff on finding the answer, rather than just answering a question,” said Garcia. 

Before beginning his journey at SIATech, Lam worked as a high school and middle school tutor predominantly in English, Math and Social Studies. In 2004, he began his teaching journey at a traditional high school. He credits his high school Chemistry teacher Mrs. Z for being his inspiration to pursue a career in teaching. 

Lam shared that his favorite part about working at SIATech is being able to work with students one on one until the student “feels confident in their own understanding.” 

“Mr. Lam is a stand up person, hands down,” said Garcia.
