SIATech Sacramento Students Seek Adventure in Soda Springs, California
This month SIATech Sacramento students were given the opportunity to attend the Natural High Retreat in Soda Springs, California. The event was organized by the Black Youth Leadership program and sponsored by Continuity Consulting. The retreat, which is the second tier of a potential three-tier program, took place in dorm-like cabins, promoting a sense of community among the students.
During their time at the retreat, the students were divided into two groups and assigned responsibilities such as meal preparation and completing chores. To encourage engagement, phone usage was limited, allowing students to fully immerse themselves in the activities.
On day one, the students embarked on a 1.5-hour bus ride to the retreat location. They were introduced to their hiking guides and support staff, who outlined the expectations for the weekend. Each group went on separate mountain adventures with their guides, followed by a BBQ dinner. The evening consisted of reviewing the daily tasks, free time, meditation, and a crystal singing bowl sound bath.
Day two, started with the students preparing their own lunches, filling water bottles, and enjoying a warm breakfast. The groups then engaged in various activities, including mountain exploration, catching catfish and foot soaking in natural springs. Additionally they participated in rock climbing exercises led by licensed specialists. The evening brought s'mores, peer pressure skits designed by the students, and a talent show.
On the final day, the student groups completed a hike through the Donner Pass Railroad tunnels. They also had the opportunity to rappel with a nationally certified specialist, adding thrill and adventure to their retreat experience.
Overall, the Natural High Retreat provided students with a weekend filled with outdoor adventures, team-building activities, personal growth opportunities, and memorable experiences in the beautiful surroundings of Soda Springs.
