Overview Moreno Valley Charter Schools FREE Charter High School SIATech Moreno Valley Charter School Independent Study is a public charter high school in partnership with the Perris Oasis Youth Opportunity Center. Designed for young people ages 16-24, SIATech Moreno Valley Charter School helps students get back on-track to earning their high school diploma while receiving career training. SIATech Moreno Valley Charter School Independent Study is high-tech and highly interactive. Upon admission, each student receives an individual learning plan to outline his or her optimal path to graduation. That way students can focus on what is needed to be done to reach their goals. The school has classrooms with highly-qualified instructors who help students. The school is open Monday through Friday for students to access the curriculum on-site. Students who have computers at home can access the curriculum online to complete coursework anytime, day or night. In addition, at least one hour a week of individualized time with an instructor provides helpful one-on-one attention to ensure students are on track to graduate. The SIATech Independent Study Program’s low student to teacher ratio will ensure that each student receives the tools and motivation needed to succeed. CALL: (951) 807-5509 How many credits do I need to graduate? Students need 200 credits to graduate from Moreno Valley Independent Study. Would I earn a high school diploma or a GED? Students earn a standard high school diploma that is fully-accredited. What age do I have to be to attend school here? We serve students who are ages 16-24. How much does it cost? Classes are completely free! There are no enrollment or tuition fees. How many credits can I earn in one month? Students work at their own pace. You can earn credits as you complete coursework and demonstrate subject mastery. There is no set time table for your learning. How many hours a week would I need to attend school? SIATech requires you to complete at least 20 hours of work per week. You will be encouraged to complete those hours at the school site. If you are doing well, you can ask your teacher for permission to complete your hours at home. Can I do extra work at home? As long as you are completing your assigned work, your teachers have no problem with you completing extra work at home. SIATech’s online curriculum is accessible from any computer. Is a computer required to complete my work? Yes, the majority of the curriculum requires the use of a computer. Students are welcome to use the school’s computers during school hours. Can I complete my courses on paper instead of on the computer? Some assignments can be completed on paper, but the majority of the curriculum requires the use of a computer. SIATech does not use textbooks, instead students learn the material through online videos, research, online text, and activities. How is this independent study school different from a traditional high school? Teachers do not instruct large classes of students in an independent study school. Instead, students work at their own pace using an online curriculum or module. Students are only required to complete schoolwork on a part-time schedule (20 hours per week) instead of a full 35-40 hours per week. Teachers meet individually with students each week to assign work, provide help, and keep students on track. Can I receive tutoring? Students will be assigned a weekly appointment time with a teacher for a one-on-one meeting. During that time, the student has a chance to get individual assistance from the teacher. SIATech also provides access to virtual teachers who students can ask for help while they are at school if the on-site teacher is busy. What time is school/classes? SIATech Moreno Valley is open to students from 8:30 am - 4:00 pm on Monday-Thursday. Students are not required to come for the entire school day, but they are expected to complete at least 20 hours of work at school per week. Are students able to start mid-year? Yes! Students can start at any time. We are continuously enrolling new students. When students are ready to graduate, we can also graduate them throughout the year. Do you have a graduation ceremony? Yes, we hold a graduation ceremony at the end of each school year for all students who completed their high school diploma.
